Al King, retired

Upon retiring from his practice as a trial lawyer, Al King studied culinary arts in Portland, Oregon and Paris, France. He worked for a short time in Provence before returning to Houston to work with Monica Pope at Boulevard Bistrot. Yearning for the open seas, King left Houston for a position as a private chef in the mega yacht industry. After several years sailing in the Caribbean, North Sea and the Mediterranean, he joined the Art Institute of Houston as a Chef/Instructor. He teaches related courses in the Associates and Baccalaureate programs, as well as Asian Cuisine, International Cuisine and Classical Cuisine. Recently he also opened Water2Wine, a unique wine bar concept.

Chef Al is a founding member of our Chefs Advisory Board and taught monthly classes for three years at Rodriguez Elementary, helping us develop our program and recipes. He also has volunteered and organized Ai culinary students to volunteer and every single Gala in Small Bites event for five years and is extraordinarily generous with his time and talent to benefit RFS.
