Michele DeGuerin Luke
Homemaker & Volunteer
For the past 6 years Michele has focused on early childhood intellectual development, moral enrichment and physical education with her two very active 6 and 4-year-old boys. Her career background in environmental public policy and her personal interest in staying healthy have infiltrated her childrearing, influencing decisions about nutrition, household maintenance and volunteering.
Michele has made physical activity and healthy eating top priorities for her children, ensuring they are involved in soccer, gymnastics and swimming and that they eat a well-rounded diet that includes lots of fruits, vegetables and mostly whole foods. (Her boys frequently ask "is this good for me mommy?")
Michele has volunteered over the last school year in her older son's elementary school organic vegetable garden and will take over management of the garden next school year as Co-Chair of the Vegetable and Native Gardens.
Michele's broad range of public relations experience includes media relations; consumer promotions; crisis communications; special events; investor relations; speech writing and legal and financial communications. Having held positions with two PR agencies (one world-wide; one Houston based,) and as Vice President of her own PR company, she has successfully led many effective and successful public relations campaigns.
Michele also spent six years on Capitol Hill where she served as assistant press secretary and legislative assistant to U.S. Rep. Craig Washington of Texas, and as a legislative aide to U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Sweet Briar College.
