Seed-To-Plate Nutrition Education™
makes healthy food fun through comprehensive experiential learning that weaves lessons in the garden and kitchen into core curriculum delivered during the school day, after-school or for summer camp.
The only initiative in the country of its scope, our chef-inspired Seed-to-Plate Nutrition Education™ program introduces children to the entire cycle of food, along with taste and flavor combinations, techniques, nutrition awareness and skills that will serve them for a lifetime, and empowers them to prepare healthy meals and snacks for themselves. 30,000 children participated in the program in our first 10 years.
The Foundation's efforts attracted national media attention early on, support from the Obama White House and demand from coast to coast. Parents report that their kids are now cooking at home, turning away from foods they have learned are unhealthy, and display a solid awareness of what healthy eating is all about. Children surprise themselves by trying, and even liking, vegetables that they would never touch before. And teachers report improved behavior and attention spans in class.
With help from professional chefs, gardeners, nutritionists and teachers, the grade-specific Seed to Plate Nutrition Education™ curriculum for Pre-K-5 has been codified and extensively tested to produce an extensive S2P Instructor guide with hundreds of class content options designed to relate to harvest schedules, grade-level core learning objectives and a variety of delivery schedules and rotations.
