My goal this year as a Travis parent is to find out when meetings are held between HISD and Aramark to decide what foods come into our schools, in vending and as a la carte snacks and to BE PRESENT AT THESE MEETINGS. Walking through any high school or middle school in HISD, one would think it's a day at an amusement park. Slushees, candy, pop tarts, hot chips, you name it. Why is this junk coming into our schools without parent input or approval? Anyone else interested in this topic please contact me. Our Wellness Council at Travis is currently trying to gather as many parents as possible to teach them how to form their own campus wellness teams.
