Julie Garza, DrPH, Director of Programming & Strategic Partnerships
Dr. Garza holds a Masters and Doctor of Public Health Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston with a concentration in Health Promotion and Health Education. Before joining RfS, she served as a research Fellow at Michael and Susan Dell Center for Advancement of Healthy Living, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health where she worked exclusively on the development of PASS & CATCH - a research study aimed at identifying the relationship between physical activity and academics. In that role, Garza performed data analyses and conducted basic qualitative analyses, performed literature reviews, assisted in the development of projects, grants, and manuscripts and developed measurement tools for evaluating dietary intake and physical activity among school children in India.
Garza's RfS role is to take four years of inputs from five pilot schools and conduct interviews with Team Leaders, Team Nutrition Leaders and volunteer participants to draft a comprehensive training program and Seed-to-Plate Nutrition Education™ guide to facilitate broad implementation of the RfS model in districts nationwide. Other responsibilities include identification, orientation and management of the internship and training programs, as well as grant writing.
